Antique Ivory Pikake Flower Earring

Once upon a time, after world 2 the island of Hawaii was shaken to it’s core. Pearl Harbor still resonates within the Hawaiian culture even today. The Island banded together to heal themselves. If there’s one thing that’s true, Hawaiians are compassionate, loving and giving. The aloha spirit is a guiding light for them.

Right around that time there was a store that opened called ‘Ming’s of Honolulu’. They catered to the ‘locals’ rather than tourists. They imported hand carved ivory Pikake flowers that came in every form of jewelry there is. They were also a symbol of you being native. That meant something. When my sainted mother pasted her jewelry box was full of pearls, jade and these ivory flowers.

When you went to the butcher, the florist or produce stand you often received better deals.

The Pikake flower, also known as the Hawaiian jasmine, is a delicate and fragrant blossom native to then islands. Renowned for its small white petals and sweet scent, the Pikake is a symbol of love, beauty, and the grace of the Hawaiian culture.

Talk about long winded!

These have two tear drops wired together to form a marquee. Nestled is the Pikake flower.

Measures approximately 3” long from the top of the 14 karat gold fill ear wire.
