I think you’ve got to be a little older to remember tightening and untightening the clams on old skates with a skate key. So primitive! Here’s one of those skate keys in bronze with a lovely patina.

Skating and riding bicycles were all I did as a child. You couldn’t’ pull me off either. However my brother nabbed them and built himself a skateboard! The turkey!.

Those skate keys weren’t the easiest thing to use but I persevered. Isn’t it amazing how far we’ve come! Metal clamps to leather lace ups. Progress.
