I was once in Indonesia in the 1980s looking for things I could make jewelry with (and dealing with the insane humidity). I have a love for shell buttons and found a factory that made them. I talked my way onto the production floor thinking I would pick out some mother of pearl buttons I might be able to make jewelry.

To my surprise the floor was covered with shell pieces they had cut the buttons out of. I lost all interest in the buttons when I saw the left over blanks. Much to the chagrin of the owner and asked to buy those pieces. He laughed and I ended up walking away with bags of them. i have used them in assemblages for years and then realized I could drill them to make components with.

This is one example of the button blanks. This comes as a set, and the earrings can be easily worn alone.

Measures approximately 16: long. The earrings measure approximately 2.5” long from the top of the ear wire.
