Ancient African Bell with Opal Glass beads
Ancient African Bell with Opal Glass beads

One trick to determine the age of anything is to look for the wear on the piece. You can see how this bronze bell was worn down to a smooth surface. That takes a very long time to happen, especially give the bell is bronze, a very hard metal. That’s why it’s used for outdoor sculptures.
It came from Africa as do the opal glass beads. These are irregularly cut with edges that are at angles rather than straight. The bell has a soft tinkle and not something you’ll hear as you wear it.
What is unusual about the opal glass is how rare they are given when they were cut. It’s hard to put a time of making when something is this old. At least 100 years.
Measures approximately 22’ go the very bottom of the bronze drop with a 2 inch extender.
